Junior School
The ultimate beginners course for the up and coming 'gentlemen' of Lahore. From grade one to five, Aitchison starts the grooming session that that will end only when we finally leave its hallowed grounds. In Junior School lifelong friends are made and lessons of life are learnt both within and without of the classroom.
The Aitchisonian Spirit of Competition is instilled in our boys at an early stage, and you see our youngest protégés decorating themselves in national and international arenas. Aitchisonian truly believes in an all round education and the boys are highly encouraged to take advantage of all the opportunities and resources available at even the youngest Aitchisonian's disposal. No child is allowed to isolate himself to only one sphere of growth but Aitchison focuses on producing immaculate all-rounders.
In a skit performed for a College function, recently, one of the actors described Aitchison as a "fair and favourite place". This indeed is the environment that is highlighted and complemented in the Junior School of Aitchison College. Teachers strive for a child-friendly atmosphere where the students (aged between 5+ and 9+) are encouraged to participate in every aspect of their early school life, academically, through the medium of the arts, and socially, in a safe, happy and nurturing environment. Our objective is to help our students look beyond, as well as within, their immediate surroundings, culture and heritage, to enrich their knowledge and experience. Above all, they are taught the values of respect and kindness to others.
The curriculum, therefore, is not restricted to the 'text book', but embraces a wide spectrum of studies and activities that are intellectually challenging as well as enjoyable, and balance individual and cooperative learning. The children are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, to understand and enjoy the process of learning. Apart from the regular subjects, when a child joins the Junior School at the age of 5 or 6, he is introduced to computers. He learns to use the "mouse" with confidence, to play simple educational games. With the ease and rapidity with which young children learn and acquire new skills, our students are able to create simple programmes on the computer by the time they reach the last level of the Junior School, K5, to type on the keyboard and be familiar with the window systems, as well as participate in other computer related activities, such as computer graphics and developing and designing digital camera images.
Whether it is Academics, Co-curricular or Sports, "perseverance commands success", and the true spirit of sportsmanship is kept alive in true Aitchisonian tradition by our Junior School. The new Shirazi rooms in the Junior School now provide students with excellent materials including video and audio resources to choose from. Junior school although is very different from what it was many years ago, the change has just begun.
