AITCHISON RECEIVES SPECIAL DUKE OF EDINBURGH RECOGNITION

Aitchison has received special recognition from HRH Prince Edward, Chair of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and Association. We also have the honour of being the only award centre in Pakistan to receive an exclusive commemorative coin issued by the Royal Mint of Great Britain. This award is a vision of commitment brought to fruition by the late Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Philip, who first considered the idea of a national programme to support young people’s development in 1954, at the request of his inspiring former Headmaster, Kurt Hahn.

Aitchison College has registered over 400 students in different award levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) since our affiliation with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2016. The number of entrants is increasing every year, with a majority of students successfully completing requirements and attaining awards. The awards criteria comprise; community service, physical recreation, skill-based and expedition. All categories share the common aim of discovering hidden potential. At Gold level, participants must do an additional fifth residential section, which involves staying and working away from home for five days. Our award participants completed their adventurous journey section in close coordination with the Major Langland’s Trekking Club in 2019 with a 11-day expedition to the Northern areas of Pakistan.

Ali Shehroze the staff advisor took the trekking trip.
