In the Scout Way: Leadership Camp, 2025

From June 26th to 28th, 2025, Aitchison College, Senior School Leadership Body, participated in a transformative Scouts Leadership Camp at the Punjab Boy Scouts Camping Site in Ghora Gali, Murree. Surrounded by the serenity of hills and lush green trees, they fully immersed themselves in the disciplined scout lifestyle. Our students engaged themselves in the following physical challenges, teamwork exercises, and leadership-building activities:

Morning Routine: Daily Dozen / B.P.’s Six Exercises

Each day began with energising stretches and jumping jacks, preparing scouts for the day’s physical demands.

Camp Inspection and Discipline

Maintaining order was the keyword. Our students rolled sleeping bags, cleared litter, and organised campsites, evaluated by the Head Scout for the Flag of Honour rankings. They also practised march-past drills and routine salutes as part of the daily protocol.

Scouting History and Core Principles

A session covered scouting’s origins, from its British roots to its evolution in South Asia. Scouts learned about prominent Chief Scouts, martyrs of the Punjab Scouts Association, and key practices like silent signals, the Scout Promise, and Scout claps.

Hands-On Survival Skills

  • Knot-Tying: Our students also mastered essential life-saving knots, like the bow knot.
  • Bridge-Building: Teams constructed a bridge between trees, simulating an emergency river crossing.
  • Shelter-Making: Scouts were taught to build elevated hammocks and transform them into tents using sticks, ropes, and sheets.

Nature and Navigation

  • Trekking: Two mountain trails tested the endurance of our students, with lessons on safe climbing and slope navigation.
  • Direction-Finding: Our students also learnt how to find direction by using natural cues like grave orientations, fruit growth patterns, and bird flight paths to identify North.

First Aid and Backwoods Cooking

  • Emergency Care: Scouts practised carrying injured individuals, making bandages, and crafting stretchers.
  • Survival Cooking: They prepared barbecue chicken, eggs, and roasted potatoes—learning to marinate, skewer, and cook over an open fire.

Special Guest: Governor of Punjab

On June 28thHis Excellency Sardar Saleem Haider, Governor of Punjab, visited the campsite. He praised the scouts’ dedication and spirit, making the event even more memorable.

Overall, the camp was a rewarding experience for both students and staff, fostering leadership, resilience, and camaraderie.
